The recipes for John Innes composts were first developed over 50 years ago and have been trusted and used by gardeners ever since. Each John Innes compost is based on a specific mix of loam, peat and grit with a carefully balanced recipe of added plant nutrients.
John Innes No. 2 is the formula developed for potting-on young, established plants into medium-sized containers.
John Innes No 2 is a loam-based compost with a reduced peat mix and a nutrient content designed to satisfy the requirements of vigorously growing young plants. The high quality peat used in the compost is from an exclusive Irish source and, combined with the loam, provides an ideal air/water balance, retains water whilst allowing adequate drainage, and is easy to rewet.
The nutrients incorporated in the compost include high quality Q4 fertilisers which are approved for use in John Innes mixes.
The combined effect of the compost mix and nutrient recipe is the development of healthy root systems leading to larger plants with better flowering and/or increased yields.
John Innes No.2 is suitable for most plant varieties, including containerised bedding, perennials, foliage plants, salad crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers, and young shrubs.
