When used when sowing seeds the excellent aeration and water retaining properties of Vermiculite encourage faster germination and improve seedling establishment. Seeds can be sown in Vermiculite alone or in a mix of compost and Vermiculite.
Vermiculite is a lightweight, non-toxic material that has been heated to a high temperature. It has a lovely and very attractive golden colour.
It can be used as a decorative topping which has the added bonus of protecting delicate plants and insulating them against frost damage.
