A porous pipe is the simplest way of looking after your plants especially while they are getting established. This is the best way to get water directly to their roots. It is simply a porous pipe which leaks very small quantities of water along it’s full length. You connect it to an ordinary hose and then meander it around the base of the plants.  It is a good idea to cover it in bark or compost mulch and only needs to be used when necessary.  You can fit a very simple timer to your tap so that your plants can be watered at night when it is most beneficial. Established plants very seldom need watering in Ireland.
